REMINISCENCE CORRIDORS & SENSORY AREAS

Prestwick Care has been providing specialist care services throughout the North East since 1992. After refurbishing two of their homes, Covent House and Addison Court, the management team were inspired to go one step further as they made the decision to incorporate therapeutic sensory resources into their homes.

Their sensory vision saw to transform the corridors and bathrooms in their homes into reminiscent, calming sensory spaces, as they’d noticed that some of their residents were particularly stressed and anxious after being there.

Our sensory team collaborated with Prestwick’s interior designer to design a sensory tactile wall that would support residents with dementia through interaction, distraction and stimulation. Prestwick’s custom tactile wall included LED lighting, aroma fans, tactile surfaces, and bells. Our installation team fitted the tactile walls within both homes, along with fibre optic curtains to create immersive dementia friendly corridors.

We also provided bubble walls and fibre optic curtains to create more dementia-friendly facilities within the home’s bathrooms. Bathtime can be a stressful experience for residents with dementia, but sensory equipment can reduce their anxiety by creating a calming, relaxing environment that the client can control.

Covent House is also now a proud owner of a dementia-friendly sensory lounge. We designed and installed multi-sensory equipment to create a sensory corner in one of their lounges. The multi-sensory corner includes a Bubble TubeFibre Optic Carpet, Laser Stars projectorLadder Lights, Solar LED Projector and a Sound System for a full multi-sensory experience.
